Dena Al-Adeeb's conceptual creative practices shed light on personal and collective narratives and experiences of war, invasion, displacement and exile. Dena's art is a reflection of the multiplicity of her lived experiences in a time of intense political turmoil, mass migration, transnationalism and dislocation. Dena works to archive, document, translate, interpret and disseminate cultural memories into material expressions as a mnemonic strategy against the political forces driving a project of historical amnesia in the contemporary moment.
The themes of Dena's art explores the self/body within the mappings of exile/diasporas in geopolitical time and space. For Dena, art is itself an instant of luminous fiction made reality through ritual, memory, imagination and spirit. Her art is an expression of life manifesting in the spaces between collective survival, healing and transformation.
